Walnut Creek will host its annual Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 30. It will be held in Civic Park at the corner of Civic Drive and North Broadway in downtown Walnut Creek.
The ceremony is FREE and open to public and everyone is welcome, not just Walnut Creek residents.
Event Highlights Include:
Emcee: Walnut Creek Mayor Matt Francois
Patriotic Tunes: Walnut Creek Concert Band under the direction of Harvey Benstein.
Keynote Address: Gold Star Mom Mary Tollefson, whose son Benjamin was killed in action in Iraq in 2008. Ben was a graduate of Walnut Creek's Berean Christian School.
Invocation and Blessing: Father Paulson Mundanmani
The commemoration will end with a procession across the street to the Veterans Memorial outside of City Hall, the playing of Taps and lowering the flags to half-staff.
Chairs will be provided, although visitors are welcome to bring blankets or their own chairs.
