Does Walnut Creek have good hiking trails?With more open space per capita than any other California city, Walnut Creek offers an abundance of outdoor hiking, biking and horseback riding opportunities including Shell Ridge, Lime Ridge, Howe Homestead Park and Sugarloaf Open Space all located within Walnut Creek! Shell Ridge, named for the fossils found abundantly throughout the area, boasts 31 miles of trails traversing the rolling hills and valleys between Walnut Creek and Mt. Diablo encompassing Howe Homestead and Old Borges Ranch. Lime Ridge is named for limestone that was quarried from the area. Straddling Walnut and Creek and Concord, Lime Ridge offers 25 miles of trails with a rich diversity of animal and plant life. Sugarloaf Open Space offers a tranquil trail through some of Walnut Creek's original walnut trees and has an amphitheater and camping areas. The ridgeline provides views of Mount Diablo, Shell Ridge, and Las Trampas Ridge.
